Biography
I have always been fascinated by language and have made a life-long study of how to read, write, and speak well and how to best cultivate these skills in others. After more than a decade of teaching English and studying several foreign languages (most recently Spanish) I have a developed sense of what does and doesn’t work in language acquisition, and am always looking for new ways to make my own lessons more effective.
My teaching style focuses on creative communication, using conversation, stories, and games to make material memorable by providing engaging, context-rich opportunities for language use. I appreciate the opportunity to teach online because working with individuals gives me a chance to develop lesson plans tailored specifically to each student’s needs, interests, and learning styles. I love how digital technology allows me to connect and collaborate with people all over the world, especially those who share my interest in travel, nature, or languages.
I live and work in Portland, Oregon, and when not teaching, writing, or editing, I can be found hiking trails, reading science fiction novels, or playing the mandolin. I look forward to starting our language learning journey!
